Squad Tracker · last updated August 2026

Squad Tracker ("we", "the app") is a real-time group location-sharing tool. This page explains what data we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what rights you have over it. We built this to be honest and specific, not generic boilerplate - every item below reflects what the app actually does.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Squad Tracker is operated as a small independent project. For any privacy question, request, or complaint, contact us at squad.tracker.support@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

3. Cookies & local storage

We use one authentication cookie (sq_session) if you're logged in - it's HttpOnly and Secure, meaning it can't be read by page scripts and only travels over HTTPS. We do not use any advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

We also store small preference values directly in your browser's local storage (never sent to any third party), for example: your chosen map color, language, sound settings, and which optional features (compass, satellite view, polls, route stops) you've turned on or off. You can clear these any time via your browser's site settings.

4. How long we keep data

5. Who we share data with

We don't sell or rent your data. A few external services help run the app, and each has its own privacy policy:

Other members of a room you join can see your live location, username, avatar, and messages while you're in that room - that visibility is the core purpose of the app and is why we ask for explicit consent before location sharing begins.

For safety and abuse investigation (for example, responding to a harassment report), the site operator's verified admin account can join any room to review activity without appearing in that room's member list. This capability is restricted to a single hardcoded admin account tied to squad.tracker.support@gmail.com and cannot be granted to anyone else.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including full rights under the EU/UK GDPR), you can:

For anything not covered by the self-service tools in Settings, email squad.tracker.support@gmail.com and we'll respond within a reasonable time.

7. Children

Squad Tracker is not directed at children under 16. If you are under the age required for independent consent to online services in your country, please only use this app with a parent or guardian's involvement.

8. Security

Passwords are hashed with PBKDF2-SHA256 (100,000 iterations) and a unique salt per account - we never store or can see your plain-text password. All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS. Session cookies use the Secure and HttpOnly flags.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes meaningfully, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
